RJS solves difficult problems and streamlines business processes for customers big and small. Whether it is a substantial “paperless” solution with multiple products, or a small company needing an affordable, yet robust security suite in Sophos, we’ve found that no two sales are the same.

Although many of our customers want to go paperless or automate a business process, each situation is unique and needs a solution that is tailored to their business environment. We take pride in providing that personal touch to our customers. Here are a handful of our favorite success stories of 2011.

If you’re having chicken for dinner, there’s a good chance the package has a Gold’n Plump logo on it. Looking to capture web-based forms while integrating with their Lawson portal, Minnesota-based Gold’n Plump is soon rolling out WebForms to capture HR documents. Gold’n Plump also embraces the entire document management lifecycle by managing and distributing documents with WebDocs and securing their data with Sophos.

Free vulnerability assessments at home

July 19, 2011

Adam and I have been hosting webinars that detail our Vulnerability Assessment process and the tools we use. The Rapid 7 products we utilize come with a hefty licensing cost, but as the saying goes – you get what you paid for. Rapid 7’s products are extremely efficient and simply better than any other product we’ve tested which is why we’re willing to pay the extra overhead for best in breed tools. Besides, when it comes to network security or PCI and HIPAA compliance testing, you want to make sure you have all bases covered without any doubt.

An RJS Vulnerability Assessment is great for a business who can afford such an expense, but what about home users? I don’t know about you, but I’m not rubbing elbows with folk who can shell out five figures for a security product on a whim. Luckily for those not wanting to spend a small fortune, Sophos offers up a basic penetration test that won’t cost you more than dinner, a couple beers and quite a few laughs. Simply invite a trustworthy friend over who enjoys guessing games and knows you well and then invite him or her to attempt to crack your password.

Having a friend attempt to guess your password based on their knowledge of you is a great way to open your eyes to how vulnerable you just might be to this type of social engineering attack. People tend to use words or objects that are familiar and easy to remember such as a spouse’s name, a son or daughter’s name, pets, sports they participate in, etc. If you are a culprit of this behavior, take a look around your desk or home. You just might be able to identify your password in fairly short order by simply observing prominent items like pictures, awards, trophies or recurring themes.

Is my password an obvious activity I participate in? Is it a family pet whose picture is plastered all over my house? Did I reuse the same logon credentials for Facebook as on my bank’s website?

In my experience conducting vulnerability assessment scans for customers, I constantly come across employees who use weak passwords and then reuse them across multiple services and systems. What allowed Anonymous to tear HB Gary Federal wide open was the repetitiveness of credentials across multiple networks. This may seem obvious to most, but it is extremely unwise to use the same logon credentials for Facebook, as your online banking institution.

Here’s another simple test for you to perform. Do a Google search for “bad passwords” or “common passwords.” Is your password on any of these lists? If so, change it. Does your password exist in the dictionary? If so, change it.

This reminds me of a great scene in the movie, Clear and Present Danger. Harrison Ford’s character Jack Ryan, asks a CIA tech geek to figure out the password to the deputy director’s computer. “Birthday… anniversary… wife’s name…” Ryan rolls his eyes and turns to leave when the tech geek says “Wife’s name backwards… got it!” In shocked disbelief Ryan turns to his friend and says, “I’ve gotta change my password!”

If you already have an iron-clad password, congratulations! If not, Sophos has a great YouTube video that describes how to create a memorable, yet strong password. Browse securely, my friends!

The internet is constantly buzzing about the latest data breach. Whether you’re a large corporation or a small business, it doesn’t matter. Cyber criminals target any organization with network vulnerabilities in an attempt to gain access to corporate records and confidential documents.

Learn how to identify and fix the broken links within your organization’s IT infrastructure by attending one of our popular 30-minute Vulnerability Assessment introductory webinars.

Learn how to safeguard your network with:

- Internal and external vulnerability assessments
- Comprehensive penetration of your network to verify possible hacker exploits
- Full audit of your website to identify potential security holes
- Complete analysis of your network resources, including devices, installed applications and all running services
- PCI and HIPAA compliance reporting

RJS adds products to security offerings

In our Document Management Lifecycle, we focus on four facets: capture, manage, distribute and secure.

Utilizing products we’ve built over the past 21 years, those first three categories contain fabulous software that can help any company, big or small, go paperless. The final component, security, has become increasingly important as hackers and data thieves have become smarter in how they steal information from organizations. Because of this, we made enhancing our security offerings a top priority in 2011.

We have now added three additional products to our security line.

1. Vulnerability Assessments:
As news sites light up with data breaches around the globe, companies are investing in vulnerability assessments. In simple terms, a RJS Vulnerability Assessment identifies and provides intuitive steps on how to fix the broken links within your organization’s IT infrastructure that allow these cyber villains the opportunity to steal data. Whether rogue applications on a desktop or security loop holes within your website, RJS can now help you find and eliminate potential gateways to data leakage, malware, intrusions and network high-jacking.  We utilize the very best in assessment and penetration technology and offer detailed reporting and expert analysis. As an introductory offer, we are promoting this service at 50% off through July 31st.

2. ESET:
We recently partnered with ESET to provide a low-cost anti-virus product. ESET consistently ranks quite highly in virus protection. In fact, when an “in-the-wild” virus attempts to enter or run on your system, ESET’s ThreatSense heuristics has pitched a no-hitter. According to Virus Bulletin, ESET has never missed an in-the-wild virus during its battery of tests, beating out Kaspersky, Symantec, McAfee and TrendMicro. And if you are an AVG customer, you may want to look at this startling graphic.

For Android phone owners, ESET is also providing an open beta of their Android mobile security offering. The product includes call intercept, SMS/MMS anti-spam, malware protection, remote lock, remote wipe and GPS localization should you misplace your mobile device. The current beta is available for Android OS versions 2.0 through 2.3. Unfortunately the Honeycomb (3.0+) folks will need to wait a bit longer. Speaking of mobile security and control, don’t miss our upcoming webinar on that very topic!

3. SmoothWall:
Yesterday we mentioned the Sophos acquisition of Astaro and its impressive firewall. Prior to that transaction, we teamed up with another United Kingdom-based company, Smoothwall, to provide an additional advanced firewall product, not to mention complementary web, email and web filtering security offerings. SC Magazine has awarded the unified threat management and firewall, web gateway and web filter appliances with 5-star reviews.

We are excited to provide these additional security offerings to our RJS customers, because although our software can automate business processes and eliminate unnecessary paper, digital documents are worthless without proper security. With vulnerability assessments, the Sophos product suite, ESET and Smoothwall in the fold, we can support you with a variety of highly-rated products at a price you can afford.
